I built this PC using ASUS Hero Z790 chipset, 64 GB RAM, MSI Gaming Trio 4070 12gb graphics card, and ASUS 4K XG32UQ display connected with a DP cable. About 1 to 5 times/daily, Windows 11 Pro shows a notification that Display Connection Might Be Limited. The provided link is general troubleshooting, like power cycle, check the settings, check the cable, disconnect-wait-reconnect. So, I contact MSI and was told to return the video card-so, I was given a refund. Then I purchased a Zotac Gaming 4070 graphics card and discarded the OEM DP cable for one I bought that locks in place on both ends. Guess what, I still receive the notifications. I've been working with ASUS about it being a problem with the monitor. So, I overclocked the monitor to the 160hz rapid refresh rate - and that seems to have reduced the frequency of the Windows notifications, but I still receive them. Does anyone have an idea about why I receive the windows notification? On the diagnostics side, I do not see any video degradation, no glitches -- the display looks beautiful all of the time. -- I'm also wondering if it has anything to do with the NVidia Control Panel. One option is Enable G-SYNC with 2/options: 1) Enable for full screen mode, or 2) Enable for windowed and full screen mode. So I'm wondering if the modes are changing between full screen and windowed mode - which may be triggering the notification that the DP connection may be limited?

You're using DisplayPort with a 4k screen? DP 1.4 (which is all nvidia supports) can only do 4k/120 without DSC. So what might be happening is something odd with the monitor's implementation of DSC and by overclocking it to 160hz you're keeping it on more often. Are you using HDR? This could have an impact as well.

Really what I'm getting at is you should be using HDMI not DP for this video card/monitor combination.

I'll say up front, your suggestion is better than any response I've received from ASUS, who seems to be treating me like a fly. I keep sending in suggestions and they just say keep it coming or take a screen shot of the windows notification. ASUS told me to put the monitor into the 160hz overclocked mode. Out of the box the display uses 143hz (news to you). So, I received the Windows notifications while configured at the lower refresh. HDMI is 144hz, which would correspond to the display's native resolution. The thing is, the DP can also display 144hz. So, I can try the HDMI cable, but that would not explain what is happening. I've tried HDR 10 on/off with no effect.

If you want to leave it hooked up with DP I'd suggest testing it at 4k/120hz just to see if that changes anything (it wouldn't need DSC for this at all) and make sure you don't have HDR on for this testing. HDMI 2.1 (ultra whatever nonsense they're calling real HDMI 2.1) is going to let you run it natively with no compression at any refresh rate it's capable of at 4k resolution.
