Firstly I apologise for the amount of text, I don't usually post on forums for anything let alone for technical help so I'm not sure on the standard forum etiquette but I am at a loss.

I keep getting 'Display driver AMD driver has stopped responding and has recovered successfully' notification and I have black pixels scattered around my screen. Everything has been working fine for the past 2 years nearly up until a few days ago.

A friend of mine tried installing and playing Watch Dogs as his comp wouldn't run it but I wasn't sure if mine could as I don't know the system requirements for Watch Dogs. Afterwards he said it froze and he restarted and that's when these black pixels and driver notification started.

I'm no computer expert but I'm not a complete noob and I have seen online that many others are having the same issue. I have tried re-installing windows and graphics driver, updating graphics driver, a atikmdag.sys file fix and a couple other suggestions I found online, cleaning and changing the slot of my graphics card but to no avail. I would appreciate any and all help or suggestions. Thanks

My comps specs:
Intel Core i5-3550 CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.70 GHz
16.0 GB RAM (not sure what kind)
Windows 7 64-bit
AMD Radeon HD 7700

Try this, it might work.
First of all you need to TOTALLY remove all the old drivers. Use this link.

Note:
Select the respective company(i.e Nvidia or ATI) drivers to be uninstalled.
Use clean and restart option.
And then install the new drivers after rebooting.

I tried using the program from the link, used the clean and restart option then installed the latest driver from the AMD website after restarting but the black pixels are still there and the driver still stops responding.

Played Warcraft 3 and the driver doesn't stop while I'm playing but the graphics are a little buggy/glitchy I assume that's related to the black pixels. Haven't tried any later games though, don't wanna take the time to install incase I need to do a Windows re-install.

Is it possible that it could be a hardware problem?

My CPU is 45 but fluctuates 1-3 degrees, system is 28 and GPU is 31-32. These are all idling temps and in Celsius. I live in AUS and its just about to hit summer here so I'm assuming that's what's upping my CPU temp cos usually it's around 37-39 on idle. Nothing is overclocked.

I spoke to my mate who was using my comp when this happened and he said he tried to up the settings of Watch Dogs but reverted back when he noticed lag. It was about an hour after that this happened. He also said it was a downloaded copy he brought over on a portable HD not sure if it's a legit version he didn't say so is it possible its a virus? I don't have anti-virus software atm.

I don't have any games that are really that demanding graphics wise. Played Shadowrun Returns and Child of Light and both games run fine aside from occasional pixel glitches nut hardly ever, similar to what I get on my desktop. On a scale of 1-10 my desktop wud b 10 n ingame wud b 1 and no driver crashes either, over 2hrs of gameplay and not 1.

It was worst when I ran Warcraft 3 compared to the newer games. It wud b 8 on before mentioned scale. The pixel glitches were almost constant and I was getting shape glitches I think it's what ppl call artifacts, mostly triangular but again there was no driver crash during War 3. Strange, right?

I only ever get driver crash on desktop so I definitely think it's related to the flickering black pixels. About my previous post about no OC I think my GPU has factory OC. Technically my GPU is a GIGABYTE 1GB HD 7770 powered by AMD Radeon and on the GIGABYTE site it says this card has factory OC but it's worked fine for over 2yrs now.

BTW thanks for your help and feedback, much appreciated.

Hi,

I am having the same problem as well. PC is 2 years old and running okay and past month or so, i keep having graphics artifacts and black screen and then message, driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered. I don't use the pc for much gaming but use it for revit and lumion rendering. My GPU is gigabyte AMD radeon 7800 series and processor is intel i7. My power supply is 700 watt. This is driving me mad. I have 16gb ram. I have tried installing new drivers, bios drivers, do the windows fixcleaner and remove gpu and reinsert and many more. Still sometimes the problems exists. Last night was the worst, as my pc went into idle mode, but fans and processor are still running. i tried to reboot few times and could not get it to startup. I had to disable power supply, took out the ram and gpu, put back in, waited awhile then turn it on. it worked for 2-3 hours. I expect the problem is still there. And not sure what i will expect again. I really like to know what is the main issue with this as i do not want to go start buying new graphics card or ram or motherboard if this is a driver/software issue. I have been updating windows ewverytime it prompts me. Will this be an issue as well? Much needed help.
