Whenever i boot up a game i get to play it for about 1 to 5 minutes then my screen freezes for a bit then it flickers a bit and turns black. if i wait for it to recover i receive a message down in the bottom right corner that says: "Display driver AMD has stopped responding and has recovered" If i then decide to launch the game again i get a BSOD (Stop code: 0x00000116) and my computer shuts down. I tried to reinstall all the drivers and that didn't work.

(I have had some other issues with my computer before, one of them being my PSU not being able to power the system enough which i think maybe the problem but im not sure.)

Computer specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Core i5 4670k
8GB of Kingston HyperX RAM
120GB Kingston HyperX 3K SSD
MSI B85-G43 Motherboard
ASUS Radeon R9 290 4GB GDDR5
Corsair CX 600W PSU

The Corsair CX power supplies are not very good, mostly people buy them because they are cheaper and they know the Corsair brand from RAM.

Your issue is 95% from either the video card going bad or the power supply. It may be overheating also if you don't have the proper case and cooling for the system.

just also, remove any overclocking software, reset the BIOS to defaults or update the BIOS.
You might also go to control panel and find the high definition audio driver for the GPU and disable it if you don't get sound to your monitors via your video cable. (it can reduce the load on the GPU)

There are some software driver causes of this but they can not be figured out with a memory minidump, you would have to change the memory dump to a kernel or full memory dump or the debug info gets stripped out.
You might also want to run verifier.exe and set some debug flags for deadlock detection to make windows look for common driver problems. here is info on how to run verifier: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/65331-using-driver-verifier-identify-issues-drivers.html

if you get a bugcheck you would then upload the memory dump file to a server with public access and post a link so it could be looked at. (the memory dump will be a very big file in this case)

I have see a lot of different causes for a bugcheck 0x116. Some are not even caused by the video card or the video driver.

I got a new PSU and that seemed to fix the BSOD problem but I still get the "display driver amd stopped responding and has recovered" message. when i load a game i get to play it for 1 to 5 minutes as before then the screen flickers a bit then freezes and i get a black screen after that.

I would say it is most probably the Power Supply problem.I had a similar problem with my Sapphire Tri-X R9-290 like you when i was using a 600W power supply. You see,AMD Radeon R9-290 card usually exceeds 400W when you exert it.And your CPU takes up a 84W max TDP.and includes your motherboard and HDD and stuff all,600W is obviously not enough. I still went into blue screen even when I changed to a 750W power supply. However my problem solves when i bought a Aerocool Strike X 1100W and it never went into BSOD anymore. It's a supplementary you must also accept when you owed a power GPU lol.
