Question from daddy_snuffles : "Display drivers failed to start"

I downloaded this driver update a few days ago, and I'm pretty sure it's the source of all my problems right now. I have a Asrock P67 Extreme4 Gen3 mobo, intel 2600K CPU @3.40GHz, Silent Pro Gold 1000w PSU, only one 4gb stick of G.Skill Sniper RAM currently, and a EVGA Geforce GTX 970 ftw. So basically, my pc was working fine, I noticed there was a driver update and was hesitant to download it, for good reason, but ultimately a few days had passed and I decided I would. Well, the next day, while I was on my PC, I noticed a message popping up, "Display driver failed to start" then something along the lines of "using basic drivers, check for updates", which I thought was strange because I had just updated my graphics card drivers. I checked Windows updates, and no updates were available, I checked in device manager for an update, nothing. I ended up reinstalling the update that had just been released to check if there was an issue with installation, and continued about my day, using the PC until I finally shut it off at night. The next morning, I go to turn on my PC, and everything starts as normal, but for some reason nothing is being displayed on the monitors. My mobo has no on board video which is proving to be a real pain, and I'm at a total loss of what to do. Can anyone please help me, or point me in the right direction?
