Hello,
Basic specs:
i5 2500k, 3.3 GHz (Cooler Master Hyper 212 affixed)
4x2GB of Corsair XMS3 RAM, DDR3 1600 MHz
OCZ StealthXstream II OCZ600SXS2 600W
Powercolor Radeon HD6850
ASUS P67 Sabertooth Rev. 3.0 Motherboard
Just recently, video output on my desktop computer has failed. This occurred when I was playing a computer game - the DVI output went blue after going through some strange shifts. I was on Teamspeak at the time my display failed and I was able to hear all my friends without issue, so no other components appeared to be affected. I rebooted the computer, both in normal and safe mode to determine whether this was a driver issue and switched to my HDMI cable but by then the display had failed completely. I was able to get to the BIOS and a few seconds after login before total failure.
I know this cannot be a monitor issue because I have a Dreamcast connected to my monitor via VGA, and that was able to operate without issue.
Before that, I was experiencing a strange problem. Every now and then, my display would shut off, and within several seconds, return. This was always accompanied by a single clicking sound coming from the computer.
I am suspecting this is a PSU issue and fear that my video card is dead for good. Right now I am thinking of ordering a temporary replacement card (like a cheap 5450/6450) before I think of a long term solution. I need to get this operational ASAP because this desktop is my computer at my university.
What are your recommendations?
