Question display going blank

would like to ask for assistance as my laptop's display suddenly became distorted or got a lot of lines and went blanck, when i reseat the data cable connecting to the MB it became ok, this happened a week or two ago. today it went distorted again and when i reseat it, it goes blank after 5-7 seconds. is this a controller problem or a display problem? please help. thanks.

I think the issue could be more compounded than just the cable. Might it be possible to share the make and model of your laptop as well as it's SKU?

Clean the dust in the motherboard. You can either use a compressed air can or a mini blower. If you've had this problem before, there is a good chance that the cable is faulty.

I have faced this problem of vertical lines coming up on the screen and then sudden restart. This could be a sign of gpu failure. No problem with the display.

Make sure your BIOS and display drivers are up to date.

i got the vertical lines but no restarts. ok will check if i can blow off the dust and dirt. thanks. bios and drivers should be the latest.

Grab yourself Hairdryer, open up the cover from your laptop, remove the gpu's heatsink, blast the hell out of the Hairdryer (point it towards the GPU die), let it sit to cool down, screw everything back together and there you go. That's the way I've fixed my desktop's GPU.
