Basically my laptop screen can show every color except the color red (and white, since it needs red to make white). So it just has a greenish blueish tint on the whole screen. It did this a few months ago and fixed itself automatically after a while, but this time it's not going back. Is it the LCD panel or the cable connected to the LCD panel? the screen works just fine, its just that the colors are disrupted. and no, it's not a software issue.

it's the HP Special Edition Star Wars Laptop. pretty sure that doesn't matter but i'm including it anyways.

edit: this is the first time this has happened in 5 months. but it has happened multiple times before. not sure if that means anything.

edit 2: I reseated the display panel cable multiple times on the end connected directly to the LCD panel, but I couldn't open the computer without a special screwdriver, so the other end of the display cable that's connected to the motherboard may or may not be compromised.

Solution
From my experience repairing laptops, the display cable itself can go bad. I would contact HP support about a replacement and hope for the best (wouldn't surprise me if it's rather expensive through them), or go spelunking around Google for a replacement.

If you go to replace the cable, you'll have to be able to get at the other end that connects to the motherboard, so l suggest you figure that out before you need to know how so you aren't rushed if you do find a replacement, plus you need to get at the cable where it snakes through one of the display hinges. I suspect you're going to find the connection to the motherboard fine. The connectors usually lock in place by some means, and if the connector was out enough to affect the red...

Connectors like that just don't become disconnected; it's by design.

Here is a quick video I found on disassembly for what I assume is the laptop you're having trouble with.

The video should be enough to get you started if you're reasonably inclined to working on these sorts of devices.

Also, if you're not familiar, the nylon tool used to open the plastic casing without scratching it is called a spudger.

Solution
yea I think it's the cable cause I put this laptop in my laptop bookbag regularly so I'm assuming the pressure on the screen pinched the cable (the cable runs around the outer edge of the display bezel). I guess the cable finally shit itself permanently. cause it used to fix itself after a while.

My suspicion is flexing. The wires running through the hinge fatigue and eventually one of them develops an intermittent or permanent open.

I wouldn't discount pinch points entirely. When you finally get your machine fully disassembled, you'll probably see one or more places where the cable is pretty well contorted due to routing around things.

I am a bit skeptical of the cable being damaged by external influences, such as being in your laptop bag. The casing should be more than enough to protect against that, and I suspect any forces serious enough to damage the cable through the plastic of the laptop shell is going to leave visible damage, and possibly even damage the screen panel.
