[SOLVED] display is black

The monitor is a syncmaster940Be
the graphics card im using is a 1060 6gb
The monitor stays black except for when i do certain actions such as plugging it into the my pc, pressing the settings buttons(seems random to me but i cant see the settings menu because the screen is black. i assume im navigating my way to a certain setting and changing it briefly gets a response from the monitor), and changing the refresh rate in display settings.

yes, until recently it was working perfectly

ive got the same problem on a different machine using vga

if it black screen on 2 different pc. likely it failed
