Question Display keeps flickering if I start laptop with external monitor already powered on ?

I have recently purchased LED monitor. When I first power on the monitor and then power on the laptop, both laptop and monitor screens keep flickering (doing ON / OFF) until I switch off the monitor and power on it again. It works fine if I first start the laptop and then power on the monitor.
