Display Link Failure

When I leave my computer I like to turn off both of my displays. Sometimes when I come back and turn them on I notice that my main display changed it's resolution to low res (can't remember exact res) and I have a notification saying "display link failed" or something among those lines. Also, my second display behaves normally.

I noticed that it happens almost always when I leave my computer for long periods of time, but only happens once in a while when I leave my computer for short periods of time.

My main display is connected via DisplayPort and my second is connected via DVI.

My theory to why it happes is because both my monitors are not running in the same res, but its just a guess.

Main display - Acer Predator XB271HU - running in 1440p@144hz
Second display - BenQ XL2411Z - running in 1080p@144hz
GPU: AMD R9 280
CPU: i7 6700k
MB: Gigabyte H170M-D3H
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB 2133Mhz

*My GPU drivers are up to date.

last time i saw that, it was the driver itself failing

also something related to the gpu itself going into sleep mode and not waking up properly

I haven't experienced it in the previous week at all... So for now I don't really know what was\is causing it and if anyone has any idea I'd love to hear.
