Display Port Adapters?

I've got a really noob question. If I have a DVI to DP adapter on my monitor, and the DP is plugged into my video card, am I getting a DP or DVI signal? For example, is it still locked at 30Hz for 4K video as per DVI? Or is it capable of 60Hz 4K video like DP?

You would be getting the weakest link. In this case, the DVI.
