Display Port on VG248QE, MSI 1070 gaming x

Hello, I just bought the VG248QE with display port cord to get the 144hz refresh rate

My build:
GPU: MSI 1070 Gaming x
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB
Mobo: GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7

So the monitor arrived today and tried using display port right off the bat and no go
so thought maybe there was a driver I needed and plugged in DVI that works fine, I updated my video driver 373.06 still nothing I found something on google about unplugging your monitor for a minute and plugging it back in still no go am I missing something obvious never used display port before and seems like alot of people having problems.

Did you try display port on both motherboard and GPU.
