Display port vs HDMI port?

I have a single 780ti in my rig at the moment. I have two monitors one that runs off hdmi and one that uses a old dvi cable i have. Someone today told me that im not getting 144hz and that it would look and run better on a display port. Is this true? Where can i buy these for a good price as most i see are 40+.

As HDMI support only 30fps(v2.0 supports 60) so the dvi is better

for the 144hz monitor you have to use a DVI-D/DisplayPort. The display port connector can be found at newegg or even amazon.
