So I recently found out that I have not been taking full advantage of my 144hz full HD monitor. My monitor is an AOC G2270pqu (it's very nice at 1080P 60Hz but I want more) and my GPU is an MSI Nvidia GTX970. I have been using a HDMI 1.4 cable and only recently realized that I am only doing 60Hz at 1920x1080 when my monitor is capable of more and is a 144Hz monitor.
I fell into the trap that HDMI is the best out there and nothing compares to it, however after a bit of reading I now know that DVI and DP do roughly the same job it's all about bandwidth and a couple of pros and cons about sound.
So my question is, how can I take full advantage of my 144Hz monitor and my GTX970?
HDMI does not support 1920x1080 at any higher than 60Hz unless you buy a 2.0 cable but my monitor only supports 1.4 so that is out the question, I hear DVI will let me do it but the con to that is the sound, my only other option is a DisplayPort 1.2 which both my GPU and monitor support. Will using a DP1.2 take full advantage of my GPU and monitor by letting me do 1920x1080 at 144Hz ? And does it carry 8bit sound like a HDMI as well as the visuals?
P.s.
Sorry for the wall of writing
