Display ram lower then actual ram?

Hi, I have 8G of ram but for some reason even though my computer regonizes the 8G it says display ram is only 4G and when I check "my computer" I only see 4G.

That is your graphics ram. 1GB dedicated, 3GB shared which is overkill.

Shared memory is where it uses part of your physical system ram for graphics processing. The first number is the correct one for system ram.

and this means what? Is there an issue with my computer?

No need to worry. You can look at task manager to see the usable ram and how much is used.

There is no problem.

It looks like your video card is eating too much system ram. Do you have a card or is it onboard?

its a card. This was not a problem a few months ago with the same card.
UGH is it a deffective card?
And what happens if it is eating up to much ram? Can that hurt the computer?
Its a Gtx 560, the same card, same brand that I had before.

No it is almost certainly will not damage the computer. The card is probably not bad.

Go to the BIOS and make sure the internal graphics chipset is disabled. Also disable any shared graphics function since 1 GB video ram is enough for that mid range card.

but then why did this problem suddenly occur? Is this normal?
