Anyone have any suggestions for a new, quality monitor?
I'm looking for something around 22-24 inches, widescreen, that is $200 or less, and is good for mainly Photoshop editing (I dont play games nor will watch movies on it). Tilt is the only important feature. An option to turn it to portrait orientation would be nice, but not necessary.
I am biased towards Newegg, but I'm open to a good deal anywhere.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Is this for personal use or professional use? If it is for professional use then I cannot in good conscious recommend a $200 or less LCD monitor because of poor colors and limited viewing angles which can cause colors to shift even when you merely turn your head.

The best I can recommend is the Dell U2311H which is selling for $318 excluding taxes and shipping:

Here is a review. It is nice to know that Dell made the effort calibrate this particular monitor to provide good accurate color by default. Of course it can be improved using a colorimeter, but decent ones costs around $100. Excellent colorimeters costs just as much as...

Is the U2311 pre-calibrated?

I thought that was only on their 30bit H-IPS panel line.

Anyway Dell uses a Minolta Color Analyzer CA210 to do their calibration. Which is pretty close to the LaCie Blue-eye and my Spyder 3 Elite in terms of accuracy. Their pre-sets are great out of the box.

It is also an IPS panel which automatically means better color accuracy, gammut, viewing angles, and saturation. If it is for professional work. I cannot recommend a cheap TN panel because they are all inaccurate and offers bland colors.

Dell also have better warranty than anyone else. They offer next business day to your home service which is actually something. Way better than waiting for an RMA number, sending it in, and waiting a long time for your monitor to come back.

Yep.

From TFTCentral's review

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2311h.htm

Default settings returned an average dE of 2.4 which offers you fairly accurate colours even out of the box and without calibration. In some cases, the dE ranges up to a maximum of 5.6, but overall the colours were pretty even. Apart from the luminance, the screen did feel comfortable to use, with vivid and even colours. Calibration should help return even better results of course but if you don't have access to a colorimeter, the U2311H is still capable of offering you decent colour accuracy, colour temp and gamma out of the box.

Not absolutely perfect, but better than all other mainstream LCD monitors.

I actually like NEC's standard 4 year warranty compared to Dell's standard 3 year warranty. Of course both offer extended warranties for a price.

As for RMA returns, I prefer Planar. If you need a replacement monitor, they will ship you one via overnight or 2nd day air free of charge. You return your defective monitor in the same box that the new one arrived in. It's pre-paid postage; no out of pocket expense whatsoever. but you have to leave them your credit card info 'cause if you don't return the defective monitor within 2 weeks, they will charge you full price for the replacement. I know this applies to their PX series, not sure of their other monitor lines.
