Whenever i plug in a usb device or my headphones in 8 out of 10 times my display shuts off. The computer is still on but the fans slow down. It happens whenever the metal from the usb or headphone jack touches the metal rims surrounding the ports ive heard its probably a power short. What can be causing this and how do i fix it. Its custom built and everything works regardless the power supply works fine it isnt defective.
Please help!

Solution
Check your motherboard standoffs, the thins connecting the board to the case. One of them might be touching a part of the board it shouldn't be and when you plug something in, it completes a short through the ground.

There's definitely a short somewhere. The trick is finding where it is.
