Display Vive on monitor with only one HDMI port

I have an Acer Predator Helios 300 laptop and an HTC vive. Love both, but when trying to show multiple people the screen, it's hard to crowd around the 15.6' built in screen. I'd like to hook it up to an external monitor, and display Vive gameplay there, but the laptop only has one HDMI port. The monitor only has one HDMI port as well. How can I do this?

HDMI splitter between laptop and the displays. Issue may be that I think the virtual headset needs to run at 120hz is that correct? I don't remember the full specs but seem to remember that. Which means that the splitter used has to support that refresh rate.

Well, I had tried an HDMI splitter off of amazon, and I can get picture to go to the monitor, but nothing shows up in the headset.
