Hi.

I plan to buy a FHD 144Hz screen for my PC. I have Nvidia 1060 graphics card. My issue is that the PC is about 3-4 meters away from the screen. I have read that DisplayPort v1.2 cables can go up to 3m with FHD 144Hz signal. However, DisplayPort v1.4 can go further.

My question is if what I read and wrote above is true? If so, then how cards and screen ports version influence that? They are very likely v1.2. Would cable v1.4 solve my distance issue in case of screen and card with DP v1.2?

DP cables aren't classified by version numbers, they are classified by speed ratings.

HBR: 10.8 Gbit/s
HBR2: 21.6 Gbit/s
HBR3: 32.4 Gbit/s

1080p 144 Hz needs around 10 Gbit/s, and only requires the basic speed (HBR), any DP cable should handle that, even at 3–4 meters.

You don't need to be picky about your cable.
