I have the 45GR65DC-B, I've been using the Displayport cable for a while now, however I discovered that the hdmi on the monitor is actually 2.1. Is it worth it to switch over to that instead? I have a 4000 series card, so I do have hdmi 2.1 out, however I'm not sure if I'd still be using dsc on hdmi or not?

Both DisplayPort and HDMI 2.1 are great options for your LG 45GR65DC-B, but whether switching to HDMI 2.1 is worth it depends on your specific use case. Since you have a 4000 series GPU with HDMI 2.1 output, you can take advantage of the full bandwidth that HDMI 2.1 offers, which supports features like 4K at 120Hz, VRR, and HDR.

DisplayPort 1.4, which is what you’re likely using now, can achieve similar performance but relies on Display Stream Compression (DSC) for higher resolutions and refresh rates. HDMI 2.1, on the other hand, provides higher uncompressed bandwidth (up to 48Gbps) and may allow you to run high resolutions and refresh rates without DSC, depending on the monitor’s implementation.

If you’re experiencing any artifacts or compression-related issues with DisplayPort, switching to HDMI 2.1 could be beneficial. However, in most cases, the difference will be minimal, especially if DSC is working properly. One potential advantage of HDMI 2.1 is better compatibility with HDR content, as some monitors handle HDR signals differently over HDMI versus DisplayPort.

If everything is working fine with DisplayPort and you’re not noticing any compression issues, there’s no urgent need to switch. But if you want to test HDMI 2.1, make sure to use a certified Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable to ensure full bandwidth support.
