Question DisplayPort 1.4 vs HDMI 2.1 vs DisplayPort 2.1 ?

Monitor model: Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 (32")

The monitor comes with a Display port 1.4 which supports only 10bit color, however samsung odyssey neo g7 supports 12bit color and in order to that I will have to use HDMI 2.1.

I want to onderstand whether the HDMI 2.1 support 165hz at 4k resolution. If not then can I use display port 2.1? does it support 12 bit color at 4k 165hz.
I have a 7900XTX, not sure my monitor odyssey neo G7 support display port 2.1
Any suggestions here on which cable to use?

hdmi 2.1 supports 4k at 165Hz, product manuals also shows that 4k at 165Hz can be used with displayport aswell (no mention about DP version, but dp 1.4 wont be enough)

about 12bit...that display cant correctly display full 10bit color range, so whats the point of 12bit?

it's a 12 bit panel, has 2 DP 1.4 ports and 2 HDMI 2.1 fully supported ports.
Anyways I have purchased 2 HDMI 2.1 cables certified just for comparison and will return one.
Can't see a difference between 10 bit and 12 bit, HDR also looks same.
Still a lot more tests to be done and comparison which I will on this weekend.

The only problem is HDR brightness is very low when AMD freesync premium pro is turned ON, otherwise HDR looks great.

There are no 12 bpc panels in consumer products. Even a 10 bpc panel is very rare. Most monitors supporting 10 bpc color depth use an 8 bpc panel with dithering to produce 10 bpc color depth.

12 bpc show up as an option on HDMI because the HDMI Specification requires that if 10 bpc color depth signaling is supported, then 12 bpc must also be supported. So the monitor will accept a 12 bpc signal. But it won't be able to actually display it, it will just downscale to 10 bpc.

10/12bit on SDR is not supported on consumer cards..i mean color is capped to 24bit (8bit single base color+8bit transparency), even if you set it to 10/12bit pixel output, it would look exactly same as an 8bit pixel output
this feature (properly supported) is available on workstation GPUs like nvidia quadro or amd radeon pro/fire pro
and in nvidia color settings its looks like this:

so the 10/12bit pixel output is limited to just HDR content (more colors), but as i mentioned earlier your panel is physicaly not capable to show more than 10bit (1B colors), so 10/12 bit would look exactly same, just it would use more bandwith and GPU would work slightly harder for no picture quality enhancement

Any solutions to this? Is ti happening across all the AMD cards or is it just me?

It's not just the games, if free sync premium pro is turned on I can't even watch HDR content since the brightness becomes too low, it affects my desktop HDR brightness as well but not the SDR brightness.
SDR brightness is all good with freesync premium turned ON.

have you tryed turning off dynamic backlight (local dimming) on monitor?

Yes have tested with all the modes, usually I set it to high for HDR content.
Auto, low, high and even on OFF the brightness is just not there and everything looks too black.

Until yesterday it was working fine on my 2070 with adaptive sync ON and is not after upgrading it to 7900 XTX it works fine when I turn off AMD freesync premium pro.

try running hdr calibration app, should be on ms store
 
Hey I tried CRU, it worked for me, deleted the freesync range and aadded it again but it was very unstable and my monitor display was turning ON/OFF plus it was going completely haywire and was showing just one color on the screen and then reset back on its own, so had to reset CRU.

Also there is one more problem with the freesync, videos are stuttering a lot on apps like netflix and amazon prime video if the freesync is ON. I don't want turn it ON/OFF manually everytime it should work fine with freesync ON.
Not sure why this is causing a lot of problems wherein freesync premium pro should have full HDR support and no stuttering in videos.
Again I have tried reinstalling display drivers by DDU, checking everything with 3 different cable (2 HDMI 2.1 and 1 DP) still the stutter is there, frames are skipping very badly while watching videos.
