Displayport adaptor no signal

I have two hdmi connections on my monitor which i am using for my consoles. I have to change wiring over if i cant to use my computer. I had a display port available so bought a DP to hdmi adaptor. When I plug in the adaptor to the monitor in the DP slot it makes a strange loud noise (not buzzing) when fully pushed in the sound stops. Then when i connect my computer to the hdmi end of the adptor it says no signal and this is for my computer or any consoles nothing works.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just bought a displayport adaptor for my monitior as i was using both hdmi connections on the monitor for an xbox and ps4. When i plug in the adaptor to the display port it makes a strange loud noise. Then when fully pushed in its fine. When i go to connect my pc, xbox or ps4 to it it doesnt have any signal. Any help?

To connect an HDMI source to a DisplayPort monitor, you need an HDMI to DP adapter, not a DP to HDMI adapter.
