Displayport Cable ripped out of GPU (oops)

So, uh... I didn't realize that there were actually pins used with the locking mechanism for the DP cables.

Well, I managed to rip the pins directly from the lock, so that half of the cable is stuck in my GPU port but the rest of the cable (including a whole bunch of mangled and broken pins) is on the other end.

My thought was to take apart the other half of the cable and use those pins... but, I am actually using a DVI to DP cable. So, the other end is a DVI cable.

Is there any way to remove the cable from my GPU port without using the pin locking mechanism?

PS.I have a GTX 980, so I have another open DP port for my monitor. But, having that broken cable stuck inside my other port is probably considered a safety hazard, so it would probably be best to take that out ASAP!

Solution
You could probably unhook those locks with some very thin blade (razor like).
But isn't there some kind of lever mechanism? Can't really see in that picture, very blurry.

Sure thing

The third image is particularly useful. See those little ridges? There's two of them, kind of a triangular shape. Clearly metal, but this is actually the bottom of the cable.

Those are the locks.

From my pictures, it seems those are activated by the thing that is supposed to be the connecting pins. They are all mangled... no way to use them. Usually, you push down on that arrow symbol and it will push the pins in a way that it lifts the lock.

But, I can't use them, now. So.... I'm stumped. Wiggling the cable is a bad idea - might damage the GPU.

Anyone know the specs of the GTX 980? Can I unscrew the GPU somehow and take it out that way?

EDIT: Sorry... for some reason Google Photos has a dysfunctional link sharing feature :\

The lever mechanism are the pins. If you push on the lever, the pins move up. But, since the pins are really mangled up, they can't fit in the rectangular holes you see in the topmost picture.

You're probably right about the knife thing. I just can't have my PC on while doing that without risking shorting the circuit. xD

I fixed it by unscrewing some parts of the GPU. That's perhaps an understatement though since some of the screws wouldn't budge so I improvised with that part. Afterward, I had access to the part of the port that included the lever mechanism.

It has to be pulled from both sides nearly simultaneously (a little wiggling helps a bit) so I just used some tweezers that had a pointy edge and it did the trick.

R.I.P. DisplayPort cable.... you will be sorely missed 😀
