I'm keen to upgrade my GPU as soon as possible, at the moment I'm looking at the GTX1070 however I have a VGA-only monitor which I can't afford to upgrade right now. I know the GTX1070 no longer supports analogue connections, so I thought I could get a displayport or DVI to VGA adapter - my screen is 2048x1152 and I've only seen a few adapters that support resolutions over 1080p. I'm a bit unsure if this will even work, and if it does whether the image quality will be seriously degraded... Wanted to check in with the TH community to see what problems there might be with this plan.

Nice find, that could work.

You are in a tough position now because of your monitor. The GTX 1070 will max anything at 1080p but may require a few settings to be lowered at your current resolution. If you want to max everything then a GTX 1080...

Same here, I can't seem to find any active adapter that supports any resolution about 1920x1200. You may want to consider shifting funds around to upgrade your monitor as well.

What are the rest of your PC specs?

Actually this looks like it might work http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/cables/adaptors/displayport/Novatech/HDHDPORT-VGACAB.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjwnv27BRCmuZqMg_Ddmt0BEiQAgeY1lzTWJWWoFK_ILY7N5OfloTqbs_5lzKG27OGdL-7I4-4aAoKy8P8HAQ#utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=products... May buy it to try with current gpu to check quality. Current specs are i7 2600k, 16g ram, r9 270 on win10. If I was going to replace the monitor I'd want to go up to 1440p, and that's another £200 at least.

I game at 1080p so a GTX 1070 is a no-brainer.
