DisplayPort GPU to VGA Monitor

I've got a monitor which has only a VGA port and I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU to R9 290 Radeon which has: 2x DVI-D (can't connect these to VGA as far as I know using passive adapter), 1x HDMI (same story as DVI-D), 1x DisplayPort - Is it possible to convert DP to VGA using passive/cheap adapter?

Should work with the display port conversion, as far as I know. Just need a vga cable to go with the above adapter.

Sooo display port doesn't need an active converter for vga monitor?

Technically any DP to VGA is active. The signal still has to convert digital -> analog for the process to work, no matter the output being DVI, HDMI, or DP. Either would work. They both have a signal converter attached to the VGA end, hence the larger area/enclosure.
