DisplayPort to VGA or DVI to VGA, are the conversions equal?

Short version of question:
Which provides better quality from a GPU to a Monitor.
a) DVI from GPU to VGA port on Monitor
b) DisplayPort from GPU to VGA port on Monitor
c) they are the same since VGA is VGA is VGA

Background/Detailed Question:
I have a GTX 950, its got a DVI, HDMI, and 3 DisplayPort outputs. The question involves the PC with this GPU.

I have dual Samsung 24" monitors. One has 2x HDMI input, and VGA in, the second has 1 HDMI input, and a VGA.

These monitors are shared with two PC (each uses an input on each monitor, so both are capable of dual displays, or I can use one display at a time, one for each PC).

Question is this.
On the PC with the GTX950, I'm got one hdmi-hdmi connection for one monitor. The 2nd monitor, I only have the VGA available. Which is better, DVI-VGA cable or DisplayPort-VGA cable? or are they both the same since VGA is VGA is VGA.

Is the DVI a DVI-D, DVI-A or DVI-I. If it is a DVI-I or A then get the DVI to VGA.

DVI to VGA is fine and probably cheaper. Also cheap dp converters do not work well. Also make sure your gpu realize it is outputing to a monitor when you use HDMI instead of a TV or else everything will look washed out.
