displayport to vga

Hello, so im buying a Displayport to VGA converter because my gpu has a displayport and my monitor has only a vga. I was wondering where i would connect my audio cable to get sound to my monitors speakers, would i just plug it in to the I/O panel on the motherboard?

Does your monitor have an audio out port? And what gpu do you have? If its an AMD R9 or R7 200 series you need a special kind of adapter.

Well display port and VGA have nothing to do with audio, so yes you just plug your sound output device to your motherboard.

what is your monitor? usually monitors with speakers have hdmi input which carries audio also. in such way you wouldnt need to connect the (monitor)audio cable with your audio card. dvi to vga adapter would be a cheaper option. many gpu come with such adapter out of the box.
