Displays and Audio

Since many good displays no longer have built in audio, and some desktop outputs no longer include audio jack outputs, can I run HDMI or DP to the display, and then USB from the display monitor out to the speakers?

No, I dont think displays are designed to handle audio out put like that. You'll have to use one of the USB ports on the computer.
