Dissapearing photos from folders.

I have a folder called PHOTOS. Within that folder are many subfolders of photos. Two of those subfolders contents have simply disappeared.
Have run a malwarebytes check and various things turned up but not serious enough to account for this. This is very important for me. Also I see many people complaining about similar magical disappearances.
When I click on Properties for the empty folder it shows it empty so I assume that means they are not hidden (I don't have hidden files unless some agency other than myself has done it. I don't know what to do. I would be grateful to hear what the experts have to say! Thanks.

Just so anyone else reading the above might benefit. I discovered the photo-contents of the two empty folders had been poured into My Pictures (which I only use for rubbish); my Photos File is within another grouping entirely. I cannot have done this...I wouldn't even know how so it has to be Microsoft. No search would work because they are simply camera-numbered photos.
Now there is the problem of moving them back. I can see I can copy them...but whatever happened to MOVE TO ???
I would really like to hear from Microsoft!
