Divers for maxtor external hard disk

i have purchased Maxtor 1 terabite hard disk.But i was unable to reconize the new hard ware. kindly help me by sending the drivers for the above hardware component.

[strike]It shouldn't require a driver. The drive is either DOA or you have it hooked up wrong.[/strike]

Doh, I forgot that some people on here don't even know how to initialize a new drive. Do as Area51 suggests.
