For a while now I've been wanting to try and build a DIY eGPU, and I've come across this.

Do you think it would work, connecting the Mini-PCIE end to the laptop, replacing the wireless card, and plugging a GPU into the PCIE x1 slot? I'd start with a cheap GPU to see if it worked and if the setup is reliable I'd purchase a better GPU. I know there's software limitations but it looks to me as if it might work, however I don't have much experience in this.

the good thin you can get from that setup is the very good gain in gaming experience and you will have a laptop with a bad-ass look if you buy a cool dock for the gpu and psu (check asus XG station if it can be used for your build)
From my experience, is an expensive modification + your laptop will no more be called laptop, because you will need a fixed power source, a docking for the gpu, maybe an usb cable to get some more compatibility with the system and a regular desktop PSU. And in the end your system will be so bulky and expensive that you start wondering if the buy of an proper gaming laptop was the best thing to do

I've got other desktops but just though it'd be a nice thing to try and see if I can get working. I understand it's not the most convenient solution but carrying a SFF PSU and GPU (with my laptop) in my bag is easier than carrying a whole desktop.
