Question diy sata to usb?

External encloser, gut it out, I do this on some enclosures that were beat up and not worth reselling, I just use the guts for testing other drives.

It doesn't work like that, you can't just connect the data receive and transfer pins from usb to sata, usb only has one pair while sata needs two pairs of those.
You need a whole bunch of electronics and a microprocessor with the right software on it to do all the translations.

If you're asking the question like this, no.

It would cost far more in parts than just buying one. And that's not including the components you smoked the first 2 or 3 times you plug it in.

Probably, if you can program it correctly, but it would be super slow.
You could also use a raspberry pi, that would be faster, but it would also be like accessing a sata drive from a computer on a network, what's the point.
