Every now and again i have a thing come up when i run programs or change pages on the internet. It says "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" then i click to show the details and it says "(whatever i was opening) caused an invalid page fault in module WINMM.DLL at 0177:bfel6633". then it names the registers. I was just hoping someone could help me fix it or at least tell me what a .dll file is. Help would be very appreciated because this happens alot and it makes it hard to check e-mail sometimes.

Thanx in advance,
The master of the budda

DLL is short for Dynamic Link Library. Basically, executable code goes into a DLL instead of the EXE file itself, for the purpose of sharing code between programs. Makes programs a little smaller. Most GPFs occur either in EXEs or DLLs, because those are the two filetypes most likely to contain code.

Does the problem occur only in that program, or in more than one? If multiple programs GPF like that, it could be a memory or power supply issue. If it's just that program, the DLL may be corrupt. Try reinstalling the program. If that doesn't fix it, rename the DLL, then reinstall the program.

something else you may try is fixing Iexplorer. Msoft\support article Q194177 explains how to do it. I did it yesterday and Im almost orgasmic with the results. I used to get page not found errors all the time and hangups and freezes for no reason. All is better now obviously. It sure couldnt hurt anything.
