Hello,

Im facing a serious dllhost.exe issue, i've tried looking for a solution but i haven't found a viable fix.

dllhost.exe pops up a while after system reboot and takes up almost all my RAM and uses large amounts of my processor too. I have 16GBDDR3 Corsair Vengeance PRO RAM and i use a i7 4790K processor, no overclocking and even with minimum programs running the issue persists.

The program itself seems to be in the right location (C:\Windows|System32).

I use Avast and it doesn't detect any viruses or malware.

I'd really appreciate a solution here due to the intensity of this problem.

Thanks for the response.

This does not seem to be an isolated issue, and i was told that if the program is in the C:\Windows|System32 folder it isn't a virus but a windows error.

Im running the suggestions cleaners nonetheless and i will report what i find.

Ok i found the solution ( i am pasting it here for those that might run across this frustrating problem), it is most likely never malware or a virus as long as its in the C:\Windows|System32 folder, this is the fix: I am not posting a link because most forum moderators frown upon that, so the source is microsoft.com and the provider is: Oscar KennethAlbero Ingles

Here is the detailed fix:

Hello, Microsoft will not help you with this problem, but I will.
I had the same problem, I solved it completelly and in 2 minutes:

The problem appears when dllhost.exe attempts to create a thumbnail of an mp4 file, but for some reason cannot complete the task, and starts reading the hard drive non stop and filling all phisical Ram, and starts using the swap file (virtual memory file wich uses hard drive space as ram memory), slowing down or freezing the computer.
The cause is probably an error in the integrated mp4 windows codecs.

Anyway, the solution is to download and install a freeware program wich generates all video files thumbnails instead of windows. It even creates thumbails of flash (flv) files!

You can download it from this link:

http://www.free-codecs.com/Media_Preview_download.htm

Or googleing Media Preview 1.3.1.343
After the installation is complete, simply enable all the video files thumbnail options and done.
Problem solved. You do not even need to restart the computer.

Before you install it you should kill the dllhost.exe if it is running. After the installation, just open a folder or select a file to see the thumbnails generate quickly and without any problems.

If you have the tasks monitor open, you will see the dllhost appear while the thumbnails are being generated, and then it will disappear. It will never exeed 20.000kb.

Done and done.

I hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
