DMA100/PC133?

I'm confused with all this DMA100/PC133 thing.

I've seen speeds on motherboards, RAM, hard disks and hard disk controllers.

Do any of these speeds need to be the same?

IE does it matter if you've got a PC133 stick of RAM on a motherboard running at 100?

No idea what any of this means, if someone could give a few pointers :)

Hi,

UDMA/100 refers to the max throughput of the IDE interface (i.e 100mb/sec)
Note - you can a pre-33, UDMA33 or UDMA66 HD on a 100 controller - it's backwardly compatable (tho you need a special IDE cable to use 66 or 100. It has extra wires used for grounding).

PC133 refers to the clock speed of the RAM - 133MHz in this case.
Note - you can run PC133 memory at 66 or 100MHz - it's backwardly compatable.

They are not directly related, so any combination of RAM and HD will be OK.

Feel free to ask for more info!

They're basically the same thing, though I think there is a very slight technical difference that most of us don't have to worry about.
