DNS issues with a server

I have a W2k3 server that is a domain controller. On the other end of a WAN
link I have a W2k server that is also a domain controller. I cannot view AD
info on the W2k server and the DNS server on the W2k server is showing as not
started. I look in Services on this machine and it shows both DNS client and
DNS Server services as running. I restart the services with no avail. Users
are seeing "Applying Personal settings" at log on and are having difficulty
accessing network resources. I need any advice you may be able to offer. My

Hi,

If the Windows 2000 server is the problem, install DNS on the Windows
2003 server, modify the DHCP server to point all the clients to the
new DNS and uninstall DNS on the Windows 2000 DC.

It really sounds like your Windows 2000 DC is messed up. Try running
chkdsk /r and also looking in the Event Viewer for hints as to what is
wrong. If the service is showing as started, but isn’t really then
there is a problem. Maybe reapplying the latest SP may help.
