DNS server "::1"

Hey guys so I was checking the DNS of my windows server 2012, and the server read: "::1" i was wondering what value this DNS is? as i am trying to put two VM clients onto this servers domain which i created and need to alter their DNS servers to be the same, but i don't think i can just set them to "::1" can I?

This is your "localhost" in IPv6 format, which means that you should have DNS server role installed as well.
You'll make your life easier if you install IPv4 stack.

Thanks for the response, Is there anyway to derive a more 'conventional' DNS value from this tho? as it's not a personally owned server I don't wanna add anything extra onto it. but I need to obtain the DNS server to put the two clients on the same DNS server. Also, would putting "::1" for them too not work?

Does your host server has IPv4 address? If not - there's little you can do but install IPv6 stack in your VMs as well.
