Are you sure you didn't put Control Panel > NetWork and Internet > View Network Status and Tasks > Change Adapter Settings. Right Click and Properties of the LAN Card. Double click IPV6 and make sure Obtain... radio button is selected, click okay. Select IPV4 and make sure Obtain... radio button is selected, then click okay.
Click the Orb, type in CMD and will see it at the top of the menu. Right Click CMD in the list and Run As Administrator... Opens a DOS prompt. Type ipconfig /release hit enter... then type ipconfig /flushdns . Unplug the NIC and wait 2 mins, plug it back in. In the DOs Prompt, type IPCONFIG /ALL and tell us what you get?
Do you still get the same problem? Personally the only known major virus that affects DNS is the one noted by the FBI that rerouted DNS servers. Normally it should be passed through by the ISP to the router, unless the computer is compromised..
FYI ALL companies basic model is: The day the computer is shipped is all we guarantee for as working as advertised... So to put it back to that exact way is the 100% fix for everything.

SO when i connect it to a D-link ethernet router - which is basically so that two people can use cables from the ethernet cable instead of only one person...it DOES connect to the internet. BUT because it goes through the router it is not so strong, so i cannot conduct skype calls for example..but when i have it JUST connected directly to the ethernet cable i CAN conduct skype calls. What a mess! Anyway, any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated!
