Hi all, I am having some problems with internet connection ever since I got a new wireless router. The internet works in general. But, I would have no connection on my PC laptop when it is fully connected to network. The error I get is something like "There is internet connected, but DNS server is not responding". The only way to fix this problem is to restart my PC, and this has become really annoying because this error happens almost twice day, I have yet to find a solution that can resolve this problem without restarting the PC. (or prevent this from happening)

I have tried some basic trouble shooting posted online about messing with the DNS server address ( like setting it to Google's DNS address), but none of them has helped.

My pc is 64 bit, win 7. Thank you so much in advance !

Are any other devices on your network having this problem?

Did you try manually setting the DNS address on the router, the PC or both?

Make sure the the PC is using the DNS server you entered with "ipconfig/all" at a command prompt.

Thanks for the reply ! My pc is the only device with this problem. My mac/iphone are connected to the WIFI just fine. I haven't tried to manually set the DNS address on the router (not sure how to do that yet), but I have set the DNS server on the PC to the DNS address from Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) last time, but it hasn't fixed the problem (unless I did something wrong).

An easy way to verify the DNS addresses are properly entered is to open up a command prompt and type "ipconfig/all". On the DNS Servers line you will see the addresses you entered.

Since you have a new router, you may want to check that it has the latest firmware. If you haven't done it, the process is explained in your user manual.

Thank you ! I just updated my firmware, i guess I will just have to wait and see if the problem goes away. Will post update later !

ugh oh....... the problem is still here. Like I said, I have already updated the firmware for the wireless router. I also updated my windows to the latest. One other symptom is that once this DNS server error occurs, I can still connect to other wireless routers (i.e my phone using hotspots), but there won't be internet access. The error given by google chrome is something like this "DNS server probe closed"

The laptop is Lenovo Ideal Pad Z570, the router model is NetGear R6100 WIFI Router, the internal wifi adapter is Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN.

I am sorry to mention this late because I thought it might not have been related. We replaced the modem from Comcast about 3 months ago with an Arris modem (so that we don't have to pay monthly renting fee), here is the link the to model we have
http://www.amazon.com/Arris-TM822G-Touchstone%C2%AE-Ultra-High-Telephony/dp/B00721TUNS/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1420910337&sr=1-3&keywords=arris+modem

The reason I didn't mention this is because this DNS problem only emerged about 1 month ago, which was near when replaced the wireless router.

You didn't specifically state, but did you also update the driver for the wifi adapter in your laptop?

Not sure what else to recommend that you might have attempted already. Have you tried a different browser? Run a virus check?

You might want to temporarily try connecting with a USB wifi adapter. This might indicate a problem with the internal adapter. The symptoms do seem to indicate the problem lies with the laptop.

I have tried to update the wifi adapter, but it seems that there are not updates. I will those things and will post here if it solves the problem. Anyway, thanks so much for the help !!!
