DNS timeout issues

Lately I have been noticing that my internet on occasion becomes slow or unresponsive for a few minutes only for the problem to go away on its own. The error I get is DNS timeout or "website's server DNS could not be reached"; something to that effect. This is affecting all machines on my local home network so it would be unlikely that flushing one devices DNS would accomplish anything

I am unsure what I can do to fix this issue. What can I do?

It can mean the DNS server is not reachable for any number of reasons including that your internet connection is completely down.

Run a continuous ping to 8.8.8.8. When you get that message see if you are getting packet loss. If not change your DNS to 8.8.8.8 on the end device and see if the problem resolves.

first need to find out the exact message not "website's server DNS could not be reached"; something to that effect.
