Hi,

I did an install of the Apple Airport Utility on my brand spanking new pc, and when I went to launch it, I got the message "The program can't start because dnssd.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem."

I did and it didn't.

I have a copy of the dll on my laptop. Should I put a copy of the one on my laptop in the System32 (or System?) folder on my pc?

Thanks

PS. I got the PC after getting feedback from members on this forum, selected the parts and had NCIX build it...it was a great option....they did a great job on the cabling!

PSS - This is not the only Apple application that I can't seem to get to work on this new PC. I can't install iTunes or QuickTime either 🙁 but I'll deal with that after this problem.

when a app looses a dll, yes, system32 is the place to put it

sometimes you need to copy that same dll into the app folder, usually program files x86 or something like that, copy it in those 3 places, system32, system, and the program files folder for the app

sometimes when you loose a dll, it means that your hard disk needs to run a checkdisk, to see if there is other damaged files or problems with the hard disk itself, sometimes is just windows damaging your files, nothing new

So, I wasn't able to add iTunes, Quick Time or the Apple Airport utility. After first trying the stuff on the Apple Forum, and then hours of work, and lots of time on the phone with Apple support, turned out it was one of the anti-virus or anti-spyware programs (not sure which) that was causing the trouble. After uninstalling the firewall, anti-malware and anti-virus programs from the machine, I was able to install and launch all of the above! Wasn't sure that it would happen today.
