Do any of these components bottleneck the other?

I've had this pre-built work pc for a while and I've been attempting to do an upgrade. Since I didn't really know what would be the best to upgrade at the time, I looked at my components and I'm trying to label out the bottleneck so I know what to upgrade. In my pc is:

CPU: Intel I5-7400
GPU: EVGA GTX 1050ti SSC (My only upgrade so far)
RAM: 1x8 DDR4 Stick
MOBO: M32cd-k
PSU: 350 watt Ac/Bel
HDD: 1tb hd

That's a dual-channel board. It's designed to be used with dual channel RAM. Dual channel RAM needs to be used in pairs or else it will run at half speed. Solution? Add a stick. Easy. BUT dual channel RAM modules are sold in kits. It MIGHT work if you add an identical stick of RAM. Only a RAM kit does the consumer KNOW it'll work.

That's a low-end PSU. The Corsair CX550W or Seasonic 520W PSU will work nicely in your build and give room for upgrades and keep your components safer.

Next up is the 7600 or the 7700.

After that is next year after Nvidia releases their new Volta GPUs.

What would you suggest for ram and is it possible that the i5 7400 will bottleneck the pc if I put in a GTX 1060?

Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer tends to like many threads.

You need to find out which.
As a test...
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.


You will get a minor cpu performance increase with dual channel ram.
Adding a second 8gb stick is not guaranteed to work.

Best to replace with a 2 x 8gb kit of compatible ram.
One place to check is your motherboards web site.
Look for the ram QVL list. It lists all of the ram kits that have been tested with that particular motherboard.
Sometimes the QVL list is not updated after the motherboard is released.
For more current info, go to a ram vendor's web site and access their ram selection configurator.
Enter your motherboard, and you will get a list of compatible ram kits.

If you decide that graphics is more important, make your graphics jump a big one. GTX1060 6gb at least, preferably GTX1070
