Do components become weaker and slower overtime?

well i have this old PC, like 8 years now it has a Pentium E2140 1,60Ghz and a ATi 2350 and 1.5Gb of ram..yes i dont know how that happened. anyway i installed Windows 8 on it but the system is just unbelievably slow i can barely open anything it has Windows 7 before it was just a slow but a couple of years back it wasn't that slow... so do hardware become slow overtime?

It isn't that the pc is slow. It's that our expectation(or perception) of a fast computer has changed. 1.6 Ghz CPU's have been around since 2001. When they were released, they were really fast, but now(even though they are the same speed) they are painfully slow. There are other things that affect our perception of a fast computer. SSD's, more memory, faster internet.

Windows 7 and 8.1 need modern hardware to run. Your PC will run Windows XP fine, but not the recent versions.

Most software requirements have increased over the years also when did you last reinstall the OS its probably full of rubbish by now if its any length of time
