i have realized that my computer will boot up normally, but sometimes when i boot, it will take a bit longer than usual. and sometimes it will be almost instant. i can tell this by just looking at the loading circle and see how many cycles it spins every time i boot up my system. also sometimes my mouse wont pop up until i get into the desktop and sometimes it will be there before i sign into the desktop. does this happen to you guys? or is it just me?

Solution
yeah, often after a hard shutdown some of my computers will take minutes to boot, I guess you could view it as knocking someone out with a baseball bat, they never really spring to their feet afterwards...? ( that got messed up fast) if it is consistently slow there could be an issue, but every now and then there is not much to do, a disc defrag could not hurt I suppose.

Solution
they do ! i had an asus motherboard before and it insisted on booting from the usb flash i had my windows on eventhough the installation was complete

but my gigabyte ignores the usb and completes the installation instead

you could set the boot priority to go to the hard drive first jimmy. ( provided it is already not set to that.)

okay ill try my defragmentation thanks!

what i was pointing out is that the gigabyte motherboards simply don't have this tiny glitch , it seems , with asus Z97-k , even if you set your boot priorities right and only use quick boot up options you still have this problem , it boots from the usb flash after the first stage of windows installation completes , giga motherboards don't have this .. not that i'm saying they're overall better

hmm, must just be the K versions as I have boot order in bios set to check DVD first and then my ssd - I have not changed it back from last win 10 install. It adds about a second to boot time. Even a cold boot doesn't take that much longer

My Z97 pro bios by default won't boot from USB, Are you sure its not cause you have to fully activate USB in bios to get them to boot and that action might be what makes the pc boot from them? Secure boot is meant to ignore USB and DVD from what I understand. They tried to lock them out, the only real way to boot from either in Win 10 is via advanced start up and that is hard to get into without being in Win 10 or booting into bios and swapping the boot order. A catch 22 on Asus motherboards if you don't have a DVD drive & don't know the way to activiate the USB - sort of glad I got an optical drive on pc, its only ever used for installing win 10 now.
