Do gaming keyboards and mouses matter?

So I've just built my first budget PC, and it is AMAZING. I'm proud of it, but now once hardware is out of the way, there's peripherals. I have a HP 2009M monitor, along with a generic HP mouse and keyboard that came with a HP PC I bought a few years ago. But for gaming, I use a Razer Nostromo. Should I shell out an extra hundred for these "specialized" peripherals, or will what I have make due? Oh and, do I really NEED a headset? I have a pair of Skullcandy Hesh 2 with Mic that seem okay. Thank you!

do you need a headset? that depends on what you prefer. some people like using higher quality headphones for better sound and a desk mic. some people like having a clip on mic. some people prefer using a headset. better mics mean you wont sound as distorted perhaps but as long as you are happy with what you have now then i say just stay with it. if you want something better then upgrade. your call.

i would definitely suggest getting some decent peripherals. while certainly you can use the ones you have getting a nice quality mechanical keyboard and a good mouse make a pretty big difference. while you wont be instantly better in games they can be more comfortable to use and give you a few options you may not have right now.

a mechanical keyboard can increase your typing speed and accuracy. its also not gummy feeling like some rubber dome keyboards.

a gaming mouse can have greater accuracy, give you extra buttons, include keymapping software and some include dpi switches in case that matters to you.

razer deathadder 3.5g
wasd keyboard (currently dead after a spill... using a temp right now... probably going back to my ibm m's as they are great)
large mousepad (i got it for $10 at a show)
ath-m50s studio headphones (not shown)
i dont use a mic often but when i do its a desktop microphone.

just pick and use what works best for you and your budget.

Okay! When I have more cash I'll definitely make sure to get some good peripherals! Also, while you're here, I saw on my local Fry's ad that they had an A10-5700K for the same exact price as my FX-6300. They said if I wanted, I could do an even exchange. Should I? I just got my build up and running, but I'm gonna wait it out to get a GPU. In a few months I plan to get a Radeon 7790, would the APU help with the load at all or what should I do..

an a10 fits in socket fm2 while fx-6300 fits in socket am3+

they dont work in the same motherboard.

in any case you dont want an apu. the fx is a better choice.

if you did happen to not buy the motherboard yet you could go with an apu (A- series cpu) and get some gaming done on the lowest possible graphics settings and maybe at a lower resolution but its not going to be any better than running a low end card with a fx chip in most cases and the cpu in the apu really isnt as strong. in any case the a10-5700 is old, there are newer/better models available. i just picked up an a10-5800 on ebay for $95 for a htpc build the other day (though that is even one generation older since the new gen just came out).

i honestly would stay with the fx.

you will need to get a graphics card (as the fx doesnt have onboard) even if its just something cheap for now so you get a display on your pc. keep in mind you wouldnt be able to game on it. personally i'd just get the gaming video card now).

the apu pairs with lower end gpus (and limited ones at that. while i suppose in some cases it might help out remember that the cpu is also weaker than the fx lineup which isnt good.

as far as peripherals go... its completely up to you and what your preferences and budget are.

i've used everything from keyboard/mouse combinations that cost $5 total for both (yeah thats cheap) to $150 keyboards and $60 mice to wireless mouse and keyboard sets for $200. i've used cheap headphones and speakers all the way up to a decent $180 pair and a $1400 sound system. so believe me when i say just about anything can work but some are definitely better than others.

honestly what matters most is ergonomics and what is most comfortable to you.

Okay, thank you so much! I'm leaning more towards the FX now, after what you've said. And I think I may be able to get a loan from one of my friends so I could just get that 7790 instead of wasting money on a lower quality one. Thank you again!
