Do gaming servers need fast ram?

Solution
Minecraft is EXTREMELY memory-intensive/memory bound. faster memory would make a difference with so many people playing
please define gaming SERVER. are you just storing the games on it? In which case I think the ram you have is fine.

if you're using it to host LAN parties and other networked gaming sessions, I don't think the ram bandwidth will matter much either.

if you're trying to stream games from it... well I'd like to know how you're doing this 😛

It will host a Minecraft server with 20 or so people playing. We never play together at the same time. max 10 people on at a certain time. This Help?

Also having more of it in minecraft's case will help as well, as it has to keep track of all the chunks that have been generated, the "larger" you world gets (this means the more people explore out into the depths of the endlessness, the more ram will be getting used up.
