Do HDDs need cooling?

Hi,

I have a Corsair 730T case and am planning on removing both HDD cages to improve air flow and looks.

I am therefor planning on moving my HDD to a 5.25" optical bay. However my HDD would normally receive no cooling there in my case. Is this a bad idea? If it is would putting a fan directly above it blowing air down on top of it provide sufficient cooling?

Thanks for any input!

Also if your hard drive is positioned In the flow of any front Intake fans that will cool it a little. This does Help.
Computer components are made to deal with heat. But the less heat i.e. the more cooling you have the better.
Components that are kept cool tend to last longer. It would be Better to keep that hard drive in a cage with air flowing on it .

So putting a fan directly above it in the 5.25 bay won't be as good as leaving it in the HDD cage?
