i just noticed that everytime i play games like crysis 3, assassins creed, watch dogs, etc. after a few minutes the game crashes. the temps i got from msi after burner is around 87-90 °C with hwmonitor around 90-100°C. I'm just using a standard intel cpu cooler.

Solution

Coolermaster Hyper 212 is much better, and is in or around the same price.

Oh my ... get rid of that stock cooler before any more damage is done.

Get new thermal paste (I like some of the coolermaster products).

Here is your new CPU cooler: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-RR-212E-16PK-R1-Performance-Universal/dp/B0068OI7T8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441826248&sr=8-1&keywords=coolermaster+hyper+212+evo

Enjoy!

Just because he has a stock cooler does not mean that is the issue.

You can easily run a stock cooler on an intel i5 4460 and run a GTX 980 with no worries of overheating.

It could be that the thermal paste was put on incorrectly, could be the stupid push pins on the stock cooler are not in properly, could be the case has poor airflow, or could be that fans are hooked up backwards causing very turbulent airflow.

Possibly, and you are absolutely correct, but the intel stock fans are not known for their quality. Just offering a cheap solution that would work very well.

As I thought originally. How many fans are in your case? And what is the configuration? boosted1g may have caught on to another of your problems here.

PSU fan? (Do you mean the fan on the actual unit? That is not an entire system fan - I meant fans mounted to the actual tower).

Ok, I'm pretty sure that you need a new CPU cooler. The one I linked is really excellent for the price. Ensure to check it is compatible with your motherboard before purchase.
