Do I have a defective motherboard?

Hi everybody, I am doing my first computer build, and have encountered a problem. The computer, when I try to start it, does absolutely nothing. I have verified that the PSU, GPU, and CPU all work fine. To test the condition of my case's power switch, I tried putting a flathead screwdriver on the needed pins for startup. Still, nothing. I almost immediately thought it was my motherboard. Is this probably correct?

Hi, Is the motherboard mounted in the case? If so, did you use the standoffs ( Brass or Steel NOT Nylon )? If you did not use the standoffs, it could be grounding on the case. Usually, I will put the Motherboard on the box it came in, put in a stick of memory, Install the CPU and Cooler, the Video card, and hook up the power supply. Torn it on and it should post to the Manufacturer's screen. That is called breadboarding. If it pots, then you are good to go and can then install it in your case. If the stanby light on the MOBO is working, that is a plus. I would try one stick of memory at a time and see how that goes. If you have all your memory installed and you have a bad stick of memory that could prevent start up. One other question, Do the fans work? How did you verify that the PSU worked?
