What i have:
Gigabyte z170x gaming 3 (z170 chip) with 2x m.2 slots for nvme ssd x4
I7-7700k
GTX 1080
2x 2.5 inches sata3 ssds connected to SATA3_4 & SATA3_5...(the mb says if only SATA3_4 & SATA3_5 are used then the 2x m.2 slots run at x4
The upgrade:
I want to add two x4 nvme ssds to the m.2 slots and add another x4 nvme through a pcie to m.2 nvme adapter connected to the PCIEX4 slot.
My understanding:
The i7-7700k has 16 lanes which the GPU uses.
The z170 chip has 20 lanes...
My upgrade requires 3x4=12 lanes
12<20 so the upgrade is possible and all three x4 nvme ssds run at x4 ?
